Race Event Format- updated for the 2026 racing season

All events are filmed for weekly release of episodes on the Troy's Hobbies RC YouTube channel. Participation and registration in these events constitutes consent for your likeness to be used in these episodes. We try our best to show how much fun we have at these events, and videos are edited for length, but not outcome or content. Please be mindful of sportsmanship and language at our events, as we do have a lot of younger drivers and followers of our channel.

Registration

Entry for one truck into one class is $10. Each additional truck regardless of class is $5. Limit 2 trucks per class per driver. List every truck you will be racing and indicate if you will be entering Freestyle. Trucks may enter Freestyle without racing. If you leave after registering, you may be disqualified from the  bracket if you are not back for the driver's meeting. The same truck may be shared by multiple drivers in a class, but if the truck is facing itself in the bracket, the drivers will decide who progresses- communicate this with us and we will work with you.

Pre-Race Meeting

We will have a drivers' meeting before racing to detail class schedule and discuss rules. We will host a demonstration round to show course layout. Following this, we will have open practice time while brackets are being finalized.

Racing Brackets

Brackets will be built around how many competitors we have. Time & participants allowing, we will run 2 brackets for Open, Sport, Pro-Modified, Retro, and Tuff Trucks classes. We utilize bracket software to create our brackets. Brackets will follow single-elimination style competition until we have declared a winner.

If two brackets are run for a class, we may run a final race made up of the winner of each bracket to determine overall class winner, time permitting.

Race Flow

We will be running more classes and brackets than ever before this season, so we will try to keep the day moving. Drivers will be given a 5 minute warning prior to the first race of each class. Brackets are posted on a monitor above the track, and we can provide a URL to follow the bracket on your phone. Please be in the racing area at the start of your class. Drivers will be called to set up for their race, and drivers for the upcoming race will be notified that they are on-deck. If drivers are not in position, a 2 minute warning will be called. If they/their vehicle are not ready at the end of this time, they will forfeit the round and their competitor will continue on in the bracket. We understand breakage will happen, and many things can be fixed. We will often make an allowance if a driver is close to finishing a fix by either giving them a few more minutes or else shifting the race to the end of the round. We all want to win against competitors on driving skill and not because of a breakage, but will DQ a driver if the repair will take too much time.

Drivers will stand in the designated  location for their lane. The announcer will get confirmation from each driver that they are ready prior to starting the race. A clear signal will be given to begin the race, either visual or verbal.

-If a vehicle rolls over and comes to a stop, they will be considered disqualified. If the vehicle rolls and continues, they may finish the race unpenalized.

-If neither vehicle finishes, the race will be repeated until a winner is determined. The winner will move on to the next round.

-If a truck is incapacitated, the driver will be given the option to forfeit the race and the other truck will progress to the next round. If the driver is finishing a repair, we will give them a courtesy 2-minute warning before they are asked to forfeit.

-Cutting corners, missing a ramp, or leaving the designated lane will be considered disqualification unless the driver corrects to properly complete the course. If the driver commits a penalty, there is a 2-second penalty enforced. If both drivers have penalties, the first truck to cross the finish line is declared the winner for Offsetting Penalties.

2-Second Penalties

-hitting a turn marker

-crossing a ramp with only 2 wheels

-crossing into the opposing lane

-driving in such a way that it alters the competitor's driving trajectory (making the competitor swerve to avoid them)

In the event of a close finish, race officials will review finish-line camera footage. If it is determined that the race is too close to call with confidence, the race may be repeated to declare a victor.

If a driver is facing themself in a semi-final race, we will shuffle the semi-final races to allow for 2 races. If a driver is facing themself earlier in the bracket, they may pick a vehicle to go on to the next round. If the same driver wins both semi-final races, they may choose which vehicle is declared the bracket winner.

Safety Notice

We do not allow track marshalling during the race due to space and safety. If a vehicle rolls, wait until the other vehicle has finished the run before attempting to retrieve it. In lieu of official track marshals, please be mindful of safety when entering the track to flip a vehicle for yourself or others. If someone is helping you flip your vehicle, please do not be on the throttle. Use extreme caution any time a situation requires a person to be on the track. Crossing the track during a race is prohibited. Children should be supervised near the track, and will be reprimanded if they run onto the track to flip trucks while vehicles are in motion. We are enforcing these guidelines for safety, but please remain aware of your surroundings. Perform a pre-race safety check to ensure you are competing with safe equipment, vehicles, and electronics.

Jessie is our Media Department, and will be near the track filming and taking photos. She will be aware of RC and will not impede the track. Hitting Jessie with an RC results in -1000 points for the series. (Joking, but please do drive safely.)

Please bring all concerns to race officials. We will not tolerate abuse, verbal or physical, to be directed at anyone on the property. Poor sports may be asked to leave the event. HobbyTown Westminster allows competitors to bring in outside food and drinks, but there is a zero-tolerance policy for alcohol at this facility. Anyone found with alcohol will be asked to leave, and may be banned from the series. Please respect the rules of our facility. We are all here to have fun and race monster trucks.
