I live in Longmont, CO with my lady (Jessie) and 2 cats (Daxter Godzilla and Socks the Shop Cat). I have always loved all things monster-truck. I saw my first monster truck in person when I was 3 and was hooked. I grew up in the era of mud-bogging, Trucks & Tractor Power, and the SUNDAYSUNDAYSUNDAY energy of larger-than-life trucks. I have been a lifelong fan. I got into radio controlled cars about 10 years ago, and have built a YouTube channel around my love of monster trucks big and scale (Troy's Hobbies RC). I post videos from my series, Colorado RC Monster Truck Challenge, as weekly episodes.
My first modern RC was a Traxxas Stampede 4x4, and I have learned a lot through trial and error. That truck is pretty much immortal, and I'm still driving it. Driving is a lot of fun; fixing trucks on an often shoe-string budget, not so much. I started Troy's Hobbies RC YouTube channel a few years ago to document what I do and connect with other people in the hobby. I like to share my love of RC trucks and hope it shows. I try to do my part of growing the hobby by sharing tips, information about parts, and honest reviews of products and vehicles. I shoot to push a truck to its limits without being destructive for the sake of it. I like to highlight a vehicle's peak performance from the perspective of an experienced driver, and I mention areas I have found to watch or reinforce. If I can save someone some frustration or give them encouragement to get a truck, I have done a good job. My channel shows my adventures with RC outside of bashing, unboxings, and reviews. My shop has a pretty good mix of bashers, crawlers, and I have a growing collection of monster trucks, as more companies are releasing scale versions.
In 2021, we had some big changes. I traveled from Colorado to Illinois to compete in the Trigger King racing series; a first for me. Over the course of the seasons, I have met some great people, some of them childhood heroes. For another first, I partnered with my friend Mike (from Brass Ring Fab) to host the first season of our own racing series, Colorado RC Monster Truck Challenge. There has been a steep learning curve, but I think we have the potential to create something great and much-needed in our area. We have now hosted 4 successful season and are growing all the time.
I am continuing to focus on bringing new things to my channel and improving our racing series. I want to do more builds, trial new or different ways to do things, and explore more of Colorado for driving spots. I want to do everything I can to grow the hobby.
